She is a 1935 film produced by Merian C. Cooper. The film is based on H. Rider Haggard's novel of the same name. It stars Helen Gahagan, Randolph Scott and Nigel Bruce, with music by Max Steiner. The film is set in the Arctic rather than in Africa (the setting of the original novel), depicting its ancient civilization in an Art Deco style, and features convincing scenes of destruction. The title character in She served as the inspiration for the appearance of the Evil Queen in Walt Disney's 1937 animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. It was hoped that She would follow up on Cooper's previous success, King Kong; however, the film initially lost $180,000 at the box office, although it later became a success upon re-release. The film exists today only because silent film star Buster Keaton had a copy of an original print stored in his garage, which he gave to film distributor Raymond Rohauer for preservation.
