A strange, dark, hilarious film. Political tie-ins, highly flawed characters, Satire gold!

This is a really odd movie. Funny at times, touching at some, and messed up at others.

Butter is an ensemble comedy film. A young orphan (Shahidi) discovers her uncanny talent for butter sculpture in an Iowa town where her adoptive family lives. The talent pits her against the ambitious wife (Garner) of the reigning champion (Burrell) in the annual butter sculpture competition. The screen play is the debut of Jason Micallef and in 2008 landed on a film black-list. Jennifer Garner commented in February 2010, saying, "We are just about to get greenlit, so I will be diving into butter and learning how to fake it. I am sure we will have to hire professionals to make the final products but I’m looking forward to picking up some new skills. Maybe they will come in handy during a family holiday" at the 2010 premiere of Valentine's Day.
